What has happened?

Hello all future members,

From the Barcelona meeting, a general consensus was found to start a society for transgene technology. It is now under development and its bylaws are being worked on as this is posted. At the present moment, we have Lluis Montoliu as the interim President and Johannes Wilbertz as the interim Vice-President as they spearhead the task group to bring this society to the research community.

Lluis Montoliu and his Spanish colleagues are doing all the hard work to register the society.

A logo contest has closed but there is a vote for the logo that would best represent the society.

If you would like to vote or just want to see the logos of your future society please email montoliu@cnb.uam.es to get the webpage link.

We hope that all interested in joining will also inform Lluis (montoliu@cnb.uam.es) or Johannes (johannes.wilbertz@ki.se) of your intention.

At last, we will like to invite you to TT2006 in Brisbane Australia and support our Aussie hostess, Elisabeth Williams, Institute for Molecular Biosciences, University of Queensland. The decision to go to this region reflects the meeting's appeal for other technicians in the field.

The 6th Transgenic Technology Meeting (TT2005)
Begins on Sunday 11 September, 2005.

Most of the abstracts received for the TT2005 have been already published in Transgenic Research (August 2005 issue).

Please, bear in mind that a complimentary copy of the journal will be distributed to all TT2005 participants at the meeting. The remaining abstracts, that could not be included in the journal for various reasons, will be printed and distributed within the participant's booklet.

Registration will begin on Sunday 11 September from 13:00 to 15:00, at the reception desk of the Auditorium of Sant Joan de Deu.

At the same time, those of you coming with posters (90 cm wide x 120 cm height, max.) will have access to the poster area at the Hotel Abba Garden to set up them. The meeting will start at 15:00.

During registration, before the start of the meeting, there will be some softdrinks and snacks available at the Hotel Abba Garden.

Your Arranged Entertainment and Sightseeing venues:

We have organised a short night sightseeing tour at the end of the first day of the meeting (Sunday 11th Sep) that will end at the Magic Fountain of Montjuic, where we will enjoy the fountain operating with music and colours. Buses for everyone will be at 21:30 in front of the Hotel Abba Garden, just after the get-together buffet.

For the official TT2005 meeting dinner + live music (Monday 12th Sep. 21:30) we have organised complimentary buses that will go to the restaurant (at the Old Harbour). However we advise you to book your place in advance at the meeting reception desk if you plan to go by bus.
Buses will be at 21:00 in front of Hotel Abba Garden. Indications to reach the restaurant by public transportation will also be given in the participant's booklet.
Finally, Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, one of the autonomous governments existing today in Spain. In particular, September 11th is the National Holiday of Catalonia. Incredible Success in our Registration Drive!!!

URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT!

UNBELIEVABLE RESPONSE!!!!

We have almost reached 300 people registered at TT2005, including the invited speakers and commercial exhibitors, according to Stella Grimpa (in charge of processing all registration). Therefore, Lluis and colleagues have decided to update all WEB pages with the urgent announcement.

We will not be able to accept and accommodate more than 300 people in the venue.

The positive side is that TT2005 has been very successful in attacting so much interest and so many colleagues world-wide. This positive response will have a positive impact on the Transgene Technology Society's outlook. A much deserved and hearty applause goes to Lluis Montoliu and his fellow spanish colleagues for their excellent work.

The negative side is that, from now on, we cannot guarantee registration and will place registrants on a waiting list as "reservations". We must confirm and receive all corresponding payments from the 300 registered persons . After confirming the first 300 registrants, we will send out invitations to people to proceed with registration and payment strictly by e-mail on a first come-first serve basis queue for any remaining vacancies.

Please continue to register for the meeting but DO NOT PAY until you are contacted with an acceptance and a request for payment. TT2005 will contact you as soon as possible.

We do not apologize for our success but do feel regret that some will not be able attend. In our defense, we had announced the meeting limitation and adequate warnings since the opening of registration on February 1, 2005.

A new initiative has been formed last year, dealing with animal welfare. Included in this action are 4 (5, but one has not started yet) different working groups dealing with:

1. Housing of animals and scientific integrity
2. Refinement of procedures
3. Genetically modified (GM) animals and other new models
4. Ethical evaluation and cost-benefit analysis

People should be aware that the outcome of these action will have a major impact in future legislation and recommendations within the EU.

Early Registration is about to end....only 21 days left!!!

At the end of this month (30th of June) we have fixed the deadline for early registration at reduced fees for the 6th Transgenic Technology Meeting (TT2005) that will be held in Barcelona, 11-13 September 2005.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Abstracts submitted by June 30th, 2005 will be included in Transgenic Research special issue. Post deadline abstracts will be supplied to attendees in their meeting package.

We have received an excellent response from all of you over the world. There are still some registration slots available but we can only accept a limited number of attendees (300 persons max. ). On 30 June is also the deadline for submitting your abstracts that will appear published in Transgenic Research. Thereafter, registration will still be possible at standard fees up to 31 August (or until we reach 300 persons), but abstracts will not appear printed in the journal, that will be distributed at the conference site.

Tremendous response to this meeting. There are really only a limited number of open places left!!! So register today!

The TT meetings were established in 1998, first as a Scandinavian then a European wide meeting, through the pioneering initiative of Dr. Johannes Wilbertz (Director of the Karolinska Center for Transgene Technologies; Karolinska Institute, Stockholm). Since its inception, it has become the most relevant forum, at the international level, bringing together the attention and interest of both technicians and scientists working in this field to discuss new techniques, developments and projects within the field of mammalian transgenesis.

TT2005 will be the sixth meeting of the TT series.

The TT meetings attract and gather both leading scientists and technicians interested and working in the generation and analysis of Transgenic and Knockout Mice. In particular, most of the European Transgenic Services/Units (including all Spanish research units generating and analysing transgenic mice) as well as a growing number of Transgenic Units from US, Australia and other countries, have participated in previous TT meetings and are expected to come to Barcelona for this TT2005 meeting.

In this regard, previous TT meetings have received special attention and sponsorship from major animal company providers, commercial transgenic services, and a wide number of support equipment and service companies (optics, equipment, animal food and cages, solutions and media, ....) related to the field of animal transgenesis. Up to 300 participants are expected to attend the TT2005 meeting.

Trans Tech Society Members' Blog

It is our hope that this will become a dynamic place for the exchange of ideas and a rapid way to communicate to the community from our Society. While this is fairly new experience for most of us, we believe this will enable all members of the Trans Tech Society worldwide to communicate and ruminate over their thoughts. It will also allow scientists from all levels to post questions and to allow others to answer.

We can determine if additional informational blogs can be added. Educational reviews may also be useful posts and we should discuss this in the context of our vision. However, we will reserve the right to moderate the postings and remove any indiscretionary postings. We kindly ask that you refrain from profanity, rudeness and unprofessional behaviour to this "your" society page.

Members and the public alike can subscribe to this blog as an RSS feed thus alerting all members and subscribers to content changes and new postings. This will be a trial and if the concept proves to be popular and useful we will maintain its existence. We are unsure of the traffic this will generate but we hope that it will spearhead our efforts to create a robust and dynamic society.

We reserve the rights to remove members or subscribing posters from our site. Our intention is to educate and promote the technology and research in the transgenesis field as it applies to basic and applied research.
